What is CPU?

The Consumer Protection Unit (CPU) provides consumers with information about their rights to help protect them from deceptive practices and businesses in consumer transactions.

CPU enforces the DC Consumer Protection Procedures Act ( DC Code § 28-3900-39 l 3) and DC Licensing Laws. We want to ensure you get exactly what you pay for when spending your hard earned money.

  

What does CPU do?

\- We investigate consumer complaints and enforce the Consumer Protection Act laws.

\- We mediate resolutions between consumers and businesses. If our mediation is unsuccessful, we also have enforcement authority through fines and citations.

\- We educate the community through workshops and seminars. Education is the best method for prevention of being a victim to deceptive businesses.
